Join us for an online Assembly, to celebrate and recognise the champions of refugee resettlement, and show the UK Government that we are ready to ‘extend the welcome’ to 25,000 more refugees by 2025.
Celebrate Our Achievements
Five years ago, local Citizens UK chapters and member organisations, along with diverse civil society organisations in the Refugees Welcome movement, called on the UK government to introduce a refugee resettlement scheme in response to the Syrian crisis.
We are very proud that the UK has welcomed almost 20,000 people. As well as earning international plaudits, the UK's resettlement programme has been a brilliant example of civil society working together with local, devolved and UK governments for the common good.
During the Assembly, we will recognise and celebrate all the people and organisations who took action to make this possible through Community Sponsorship and council-led resettlement.
We will also announce the winners of the annual Community Sponsorship Awards. Out of necessity, the awards will be somewhat different this year. We will be recognising the groups and resettled families who stepped up to support their communities during the ongoing pandemic.
Extend the Welcome
The resettlement scheme has not yet been extended, and is due to come to an end in Spring 2021. Therefore, we have invited key decision makers, and we will show the UK Government that we are ready to extend the welcome to 25,000 more refugees by 2025.
