Community Sponsorship Awards

Community Sponsorship Awards

We believe that community sponsorship of refugees should be celebrated, and that inspirational groups, individuals and local authorities should be recognised for the work they put in to make community sponsorship a success. That is why we organise the annual Community Sponsorship Awards.

The awards are also an opportunity to promote the scheme, for people across the UK to build relationships, and to hear motivational stories of welcome.

Refugees Still Welcome Assembly 2020

On 6th December 2020, Sponsor Refugees held its first online Awards show - The Refugees Still Welcome Assembly on Zoom! Sponsor Refugees and Citizens UK hosted an Assembly to celebrate the resettlement of 20,000 refugees between 2015 and 2020 and to recognise all the people and organisations who took action to make this possible through Community Sponsorship and council-led resettlement. Finally, we called on the UK Government to ‘extend the welcome’ to 25,000 more refugees by 2025.

Community Sponsorship Awards 2019

In October 2019, Sponsor Refugees held its third Community Sponsorship Awards Ceremony at Canada House on Trafalgar Square. Hosted by Canadian High Commissioner Her Excellency Janice Charette, we met incredible people whose integration process deserved more awards than we were able to give. A big thank you to our partners for this event, Reset, Canada House, Linklaters and Global Refugee Sponsorship Initiative.
